10 Uncommonly used Filipino words 

Here in the Philippines , we have a lot of unfamiliar , uncommonly used words. Here’s the Top 10 uncommonly used words that i pick :

1. Filipino word :  Haynayan

English Word : Biology

Meaning : A Branch of science that deals with life .

Example Filipino sentence :  “ Nakagawa na ba kayo ng asignatura natin sa haynayan ? “

Example English sentence : ” Do you have an assignment in Biology ? ” 

 

2. Filipino word : Karumlan

English Word : Menstrual Period

Meaning :A monthly cycle of a Adolescent girl of her ovulation period .

Example Filipino sentence:  “ Kailan ang huling Karumlan mo ? ” 

Example English sentence : ” When was your last menstrual period ? ” 

 

3. Filipino word : Panghibayo

English Word : Amplifier

Meaning : An electronic device for increasing the amplitude of electric signals , used chiefly in sound reproduction .

Example Filipino sentence :  ” Sino sainyo ang nakapagdala ng panghibayo na gagamitin mamaya ? ” 

Example English sentence : ” Does anyone brought an amplifier for tonight’s show ? “

 

4. Filipino word : Pook-sapot

English word : Website

Meaning : a place on the World Wide Web that contains information about a person, organizations , and etc.

Example Filipino sentence : ”  Ang sikat sa kabatang pook-sapot ay Facebook. ” 

Example sentence : ” Facebook’s the most famous website last decades among teenagers ” 

 

5 . Filipino word : Sulatroniko

English word : E-mail

Meaning : A system for sending messages from one computer to another computer .

Example Filipino sentence : ” Hija nakagawa ka na ba ng sulatroniko para sa iyong Ina na nasa abroad ? ” 

Example English sentence : ” Ann dear , did you send an e-mail message for your mother abroad ? “

 

6. Filipino word : Pang-ulong Hatinig

English word : Earphone

Meaning :  A device that holds an earphone and microphone in place on a person’s head .

Example Filipino sentence : ” Lagot na naman ako kay Mama nasari na naman ang pang-ulong hatinig ko na kakabili lang nung isang linggo ” 

Example English sentence : ” Mum’s going to be mad at me if you know that i broke another pair of earphone ” 

 

7. Filipino word : Panginain

English word : Browser

Meaning : A computer program that is used to find and look at information on the internet .

Example Filipino sentence : ” May nakita ka bang ” domain name ”  sa panginain ng cellphone mo ? ” 

Example English sentence : “ What web browser are you using? “

 

8. Filipino word : Pantablay

English word : Charger

Meaning : A device for charging storage batteries

Example Filipino sentence : ” Pwede po bang makuha ang pantablay ko na nasa lamesa ko sa kwarto ? ” 

Example English sentence : ” Can i have my charger back ? i’m going to use it now ” 

 

9. Filipino word : Miktinig

English word : Microphone

Meaning : An instrument whereby sound waves are caused to generate or modulate an electric  current usually for the purpose of transmitting or recording sound ( as speech or music ) .

Example Filipino sentence : ” Bakit hindi tumutunog yung isang miktinig ? Sira na ba iyon ? “

Example English sentence : ” Why isn’t the other microphone working ? ” 

 

10. Filipino word :  Salipawpaw

English Word: Airplane

Meaning : A powered flying vehicle with fixed wings and a weight greater than that of the air it displaces .

Example Filipino sentence : ” Naaalala ko pa dati gumagawa kami ng salipawpaw na gawa sa papel at papaliparin namin . ” 

Example English sentence : ” When i was a young kid , i dream about riding an airplane .”
